The second leg of preliminary competition, the rein work, kicked off for National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity Open competitors Friday, Sept. 26, at the Reno Livestock Events Center.
Riding Sushi Boss (CD Lights x Shiney Sushi x Shining Spark), Chris Dawson, Burneyville, Okla., made the high-scoring run of the day, a 222. Sushi Boss is owned by Kaye Tennant and Leroy Hoffman. Dawson and the palomino stallion earned a 216.5 in the herd work earlier in the week, and they are currently second in the Open composite.
The composite leader is Call Me Mitch (Metallic Cat x Miss Hickory Hill x Doc’s Hickory), shown by Phillip Ralls for owner Estelle Roitblat. They have a 439.5 composite (219.5 herd/220 rein).
The high-scoring rein work in the Intermediate and Limited Open, a 220.5, belonged to Monica Caetano and Smokin Little Ringo (Smart Little Pepinic x Smoking Sabrina x Mister Dual Pep), owned by John Pascoe. Monica and another horse, Follow The Star (Soula Jule Star x Wright Now Ima Star x Lenas Wright On), lead the Intermediate and Limited Open composite with a 432 (214.5 herd/217.5 rein).
In the Level 1 Limited Open, it was Spoonful Playmate II (Hes A Peptospoonful x Happy Get Lucky x Smart Little Lena) at the top of the results sheet with a 216.5. She is owned and shown by Chris Krieg, Spoonful Playmate II is by Hes A Peptospoonful out of the mare Happy Get Lucky.
