In 2009, the NRCHA recognized the NRCHYA as an official part of the organization. This led to the idea of gaining more youth participation through premiere event classes specifically for the youth, youth clinic programs, and scholarship opportunities. Within the NRCHYA, we encourage high moral character, sportsmanship, participation in event activities, and leadership opportunities.

Meet the Officer Team
At the Celebration of Champions each year, new youth officers are elected by the youth to be on the NRCHYA Board who then works in close liaison with the NRCHYA Advisory Committee and NRCHA Staff to discuss the business and properties managed by the youth.
The youth board members and youth chairman hold a monthly conference call discussing upcoming youth activities and brainstorm new ideas for the youth program. If you are interested in getting involved we encourage you to join the conversation on the conference call. Please contact the office, for the conference call information.

Youth Clinics
The goal of the National Reined Cow Horse Youth Association (NRCHYA) is to gain interest and knowledge of the reined cow horse across all regions. In an effort to assist and support the youth of this sport, the NRCHYA has established a Youth Clinic Program. Each clinic is led by one or more NRCHA professionals who teach all levels of youth from basic horsemanship skills to advanced work on live cattle. The clinics are at least one full day and free of charge to youth participants. Clinic hosts, upon meeting the requirements, would be eligible to receive finical assistance through an application process which is made possible through grants from the NRCHA Foundation and generous donations from the Delaplaine Foundation and Chris and Debbie Swain.
Scholarship Opportunities
In efforts to support the youth of the NRCHA with opportunities for advancement and reward the Youth Scholarship program has been set forth. Annually, at the conclusion of the NRCHA Show Year, the NRCHA Foundation will award a scholarship to each NRCHA Affiliate Youth Cow Horse Champion and NRCHA Affiliate Youth Boxing Champion in compliance with Youth Scholarship Program guidelines.
To compete for the year-end scholarships, youth participants must have competed in at least one-third of the NRCHA Approved Shows held by a Qualifying Affiliate during the show year. A Qualifying Affiliate is an affiliate whose shows are exclusively approved by the NRCHA with no other local, regional, or national organization approving or utilizing the results of these shows for any reason without the NRCHA’s prior approval. No double-judged, double-pointed shows or two NRCHA shows on one day in the same location will be approved by the NRCHA. Each contestant for the scholarship must be a member of the NRCHA in good standing as of the date of the competition for the scholarship.
