Hackamore Classic herd work complete; two horses shown by Zane Davis lead Open composite

At the National Reined Cow Horse Association Hackamore Classic in Pueblo, Colo., competitors showed in the second of three preliminary events, the herd work. The rider at the top of the results sheet in the Open division – twice – is Zane Davis, Blackfoot, Idaho, who has both the first- and second place horses under his saddle.

Leading the field of Open contenders after two events is Brother Jackson (Peptoboonsmal x Shes Icing Onthe Cat x High Brow Cat), owned by John Semanik. The 2009 stallion has a composite  293.5 on two events (145.5 rein/148 herd). His 148 herd work was the high score of the day.

Davis’s second-place horse is Rubys Radar (One Time Pepto x Ruby Bagonia x Peppy San Badger), a 2010 stallion owned by Billie Filippini. Rubys Radar has a 292.5 total so far (146.5 rein/146 herd), and won the rein work round Wednesday in Pueblo.

On Friday, May 2, exhibitors show in the final preliminary event, the cow work, which will determine who moves on to Saturday’s cow work-only finals. The finals score plus the three preliminary scores will decide the 2014 Hackamore Classic Champions.

Intermediate Open
The Hackamore Classic Intermediate Open composite leader is Coolreys (Dual Rey x Olena Cindy x Doc O’Lena), shown by Justin Lawrence, Alzada, Mont., and owned by Robin Dangel. The 2010 mare has a 287 total on two events (142 rein/145 herd).

Limited Open
The Hackamore Classic Limited Open composite leader is Jojo Tari (Little Polo Joe x Tari Acre x Bob Acre Doc), shown and owned by Lavert Avent, Watrous, N.M.. The 2009 mare has a combined 286 score on two events (140 rein/145.5 herd). That score also places Jojo Tari in a tie for second place in the Hackamore Classic Intermediate Open.

Level 1 Limited Open 
The aptly-named Coloradoboonsmal (Peptoboonsmal x Miss Playboys Josie x Freckles Playboy), shown by Keith Vogel, Avondale, Colo., for owner Ted Swanson, leads the Limited Open division with a 282 composite (139 rein/143 herd).

Open Novice Horse
Reys Star Cat (High Brow Cat x Reys Starlight x Grays Starlight) maintained the top spot in the Open Novice Horse division, scoring a 143 in the herd work. Added to his 145.5 rein work score, he holds the lead with a 288.5 total on two events. The 2009 gelding is shown by NRCHA Two Million Dollar Rider Todd Crawford, and owned by Dominic Conicelli.

Non Pro, Intermediate Non Pro and Novice Non Pro
Riding her 2010 gelding, Cats Genuine Joker (High Rollin Cat x Zanzgenuinelighting x Genuine Doc), Karey Franz, Longmont, Colo., leads the Non Pro, Intermediate Non Pro and Novice Non Pro divisions. She has a total 287 on two events (145 rein/142 herd).

Amateur
Wolfford, Texas, horseman Parke Greeson maintains the lead in the Amateur division aboard  Checkn Out The Ladys (Im Countin Checks x No Lady Wood x Zack T Wood). Greeson and the 2010 gelding scored a 142.5 in the rein work and 138 in the herd work for a total 280.5 on two events.

Shining Lil Nic Bridle Spectacular Herd Work
The Shining Lil Nic Bridle Spectacular herd work wrapped up the show day in Pueblo. A pair of 144 scores led the Open division; one from Reymanator (Dual Rey x Savannah Hickory x Doc’s Hickory), shown b Zane Davis for John Semanik; and the other from Very Smart Magic (Very Smart Remedy x Magical Lena x Little Lenas Legend), shown by Jay McLaughlin and owned by Joyce Pearson.On the Non Pro side, Danny Poole led both the Non Pro and Novice Non Pro Bridle Spectacular with a 143 on Boonie Tunes (Peptoboonsmal x Shiney Tari x Shining Spark).
The top score in the Non Pro Limited Spectacular, a 140, belongs to Susan Lyle aboard More Magic Please (Chic Please x Magical Lena x Little Lenas Legend).
