Smokum Oak

Born in 1981 and sired by NCHA Hall of Fame sire Doc’s Oak, Smokum Oak was out of Gunsmoke Ann. With only a limited show career, Smokum Oak amassed earnings that exceeded $45,000. He began with the 1984 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity, where he made the finals and placed fourteenth.
Smokum Oaks’ prowess in the show pen was just a prelude to his proficiency as a sire. The stallion was the corner-stone for the breeding program of Wright’s Quarter Horses.
His foals have been champions in working cow horse, reining, and cutting. The best known of those being Smokums Prize, who won the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open and Non Pro titles in 2000, and was the highest earning 3-year-old in the history of the NRCHA. His lifetime earnings exceed $217,000.
