2016 NRCHA Stallion Stakes Open Rein Work Prelims Complete
Shiney Sparklette and Chris Dawson win the go-round with a 221.5
National Reined Cow Horse Association Professional Chris Dawson, Aubrey, Texas, and Shiney Sparklette (Shining Spark x Docs Sulena x Doc O’Lena) started the 2016 show season on a high note when they won the Aaron Ranch Cow Horse Classic Derby Open Championship in Fort Worth, Texas. The pair is continuing on a roll at the NRCHA Stallion Stakes in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they turned in the top Open rein work preliminary score, a 221.5.
Shiney Sparklette, a 2012 mare bred and owned by iconic Quarter Horse breeder and NRCHA Hall of Fame member Carol Rose, Gainesville, Texas, bested a field of 138 Open horses in the first leg of NRCHA Stakes competition.
In the Intermediate Open, Nocona, Texas, professional Shawn Hays turned in the high score, a 220.5, aboard Hez The Kats Meow (Bet Hesa Cat x Miss Lucky Starlight x Grays Starlight), owned by Lynn Thomas. Hays also topped the Open Novice Horse rein work, scoring a 219.5 on Hickorys Prize Doll (Smokums Prize x Hickorys Poco Doll x Doc’s Hickory) for owner Yellow Creek Ranch.
The Limited Open and Level 1 Limited Open rein work leader was Sangria Time (One Time Pepto x Shiney Senorita x Shining Spark), scoring a 214. Nic Howard showed the mare for owner Beverly Vaughn.
