The National Reined Cow Horse Association has released a new “Introduction to Reined Cow Horse” video, designed to familiarize National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA) contestants with the newest event in the NHSRA competitive lineup.

Hosted by professional bull rider, NRCHA competitor and media personality Brendon Clark, the video provides a complete overview of reined cow horse competition, including a brief history of the sport; a summary of equipment rules; and a demonstration of rein work and cow work. National Reined Cow Horse Association President Todd Crawford provides expert guidance and narration, and the cow horse run is demonstrated by National Reined Cow Horse Youth Association President Lisa Jordan. The approximately 14-minute video was shot by official NRCHA Videographer Equine Promotion on location at the NRCHA Hackamore Classic in Pueblo, Colo., with post-production by Big Creek Productions.

“We created this video as a resource to help National High School Rodeo competitors get up to speed quickly, and to answer some of the basic questions they may have about reined cow horse. We hope this overview of the sport, the equipment and the maneuver-by-maneuver description of the run and how it is judged will be useful to NHSRA contestants and get them excited about participating in reined cow horse,” said NRCHA Executive Director Jay Winborn.

“Introduction to Reined Cow Horse” is available for public viewing on the NRCHA Vimeo channel. The video may be downloaded, reproduced and replayed for instructional purposes only; no other uses are permitted. Click here to view and download the video.

In February, the NRCHA and the NHSRA announced their partnership and the addition of reined cow horse to the existing NHSRA lineup of bareback riding, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, and cutting for boys; and breakaway roping, barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, cutting, team roping, and the queen contest for girls.
